La Marvel mette online i suoi eroi: 250 albi gratis #
Debutta l'iniziativa Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited, probabilmente il più aggressivo sbarco online della storia dell'industria del fumetto. Sono ben 250 gli albi che è possibile leggere online gratuitamente per provare il servizio. Un passo storico che porta il fumetto in una nuova stagione, basta fare un giro per il sito per rendersene conto.

Segno dei tempi: la Marvel Comics, una delle più importanti case editoriali al mondo di fumetti, quella che ha «inventato» l'Uomo Ragno o l'Incredibile Hulk, mette online i suoi eroi. Per l'industria dei fumetti - come sottolinea il quotidiano nazionale Usa Today - si tratta di un passo storico: l'archivio, che comprende oltre 2.500 vecchi numeri delle avventure di Capitan America, X-Men, Iron Man, Devil, Fantastici Quattro, da oggi è acquistabile e consultabile via internet, al corso di 58,88 dollari all'anno, oppure di 9,99 dollari al mese. Alla Marvel assicurano: sarà in tutto e per tutto come leggere il vecchio fumetto, per voltare pagina basterà un clic, e in più si avrà il vantaggio di avere colori più brillanti. (..)

Le memoria storica del fumetto Marvel ha trovato finalmente una collocazione digitale di facile accesso. Gli appassionati di "comics", da ieri, possono abbandonarsi su Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited alle strisce inchiostrate che hanno segnato la cultura pop occidentale. (..) "Non hai più il classico scaffale di fumetti presente nei negozi specializzati", ha spiegato Dan Buckley, Presidente di Marvel Publishing. "Ci mancava un prodotto che fosse compatibile con le esigenze dei ragazzi". Di fatto Marvel vuole rispondere all'offensiva digitale della Dark Horse Comics e della DC Comics che spopolano su MySpace e altre piattaforme. (..)
Intervista a Joe Quesada (in inglese) sull'iniziativa:
Question: Comics have a long tradition of "collectible" physical objects; what does it mean that this initiative turns Marvel's comics into something that's not physical and not collectible?
Quesada: When Marvel really started to push into the collected editions and trade-paperback world, there was a big to-do within the comics community about "will these collected editions take the place of the monthly comics?" Why would I go out and buy the first six issues when I know it's going to be compiled several months down the road, and probably for a better price point? Will that put the monthly comic out of business? Well, what we found was that it actually increased the sales of the monthly comic. We ended up with people who enjoy both formats--buying the monthlies and the trades. It increased our business on the whole. I believe it's going to be the same thing with digital comics. There will be people out there who don't just view digital comics, but also want the experience of the hard copy, and seek that out as well.
Moving forward, two or three generations from today, there will be people who will be getting material in other ways beyond the ones that we foresee. Music is a perfect example of that. I used to collect vinyl, and then I traded that in for CDs, and now CDs are going the way of the dinosaur and everything's on my computer. I really enjoyed those vinyl records, but at the end of the day, there are better formats--for me, at least. I believe that comics, because they have that collectibility aspect, will always have people who want those particular monthly comics. (..)
