[softonic]Scegliere un lettore multimediale non è facile. KMPlayer è un programma relativamente giovane, adatto alle esigenze di chi vuole un player funzionante in pochi minuti, ma anche di chi preferisce configurare manualmente ogni dettaglio della riproduzione audio e video

Giustamente si fa un gran parlare di VLC Media Player, che si è guadagnato la fama di essere il miglior player video gratuito (e probabilmente non solo) in circolazione. Ma esistono anche valide e altrettanto economiche alternative. Una di queste è KMPlayer, un software sviluppato in Corea.

A guardarlo sembra un innocuo lettore, con un'interfaccia moderna ma nemmeno troppo. Niente a vedere con l'austera efficienza di VLC. Inoltre è già equipaggiato con una completa raccolta di codec, il che potrebbe fare pensare ad un programma per utenti inesperti, che chiedono solo un player in grado di far partire un video senza altre complicazioni. Qualunque sia il suo formato: streaming da Internet, DVD, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MOV, Flash Video, Google Video, sono solo alcune delle possibilità di riproduzione offerte dal programma.

Agli utenti più esperti basterà un semplice clic con il tasto destro per dischiudere una quantità di opzioni mai viste: qualunque aspetto della riproduzione è configurabile. Dalle banali scelte di risoluzione, alle meno comuni opzioni per configurare codec e filtri utilizzati durante la riproduzione. Inoltre è compatibile anche con tecnologie come gli input plugin di Winamp o l'architettura di visualizzazione QuickTime sviluppata da Apple, da non confondersi con l'omonima applicazione. Si tratta di una compatibilità più unica che rara.

Tornando ad argomenti meno tecnici (e probabilmente più interessanti) KMPlayer supporta anche una varietà impressionante di sottotitoli, così come di effetti audio e video.
